The revolution Men Have Lupus is attempting within the chronic illness community can only exist with you. We originally didn't know that we would pursue this endeavour, but we've watched great people; including ourselves; fall through the cracks.
Society thinks the sick get disability and "welfare" by just saying they're sick. Society also beleives those are on disability have enought to survive. I can promise you that they wish it were true. We found ourselves almost homeless a few times. The first time Heather found an onsite property manager gig. The second time a family member helped us. We then used my back disability to pay back taxes in Texas. Our friends helped where needed, thankfully. We aren't the only ones who are sick, falling into a stigma, and knowing how big some of these cracks can be. |
The Chronic Illness Oasis will be acreage to place small homes (not tiny) for those with chronic illnesses fighting disability or needing to learn a new skill set and their family to live. We will ensure they see doctors if there are treatment options. They will have cleaning supplies, hygienic supplies, food, medication, and food. Those who've gained disability, or a new skill set and those already on disability can make donations (donations will help others stay with new homes) and help with the greenhouses and other chores. We will have the Oasis close to us and will have on of those with chronic illness to be the manager. All people staying on the property will have to pass drug and alcohol screening. If self-medicating, we will send them to rehab before bringing them to the Oasis. |

These homes aren't just homes for people with Lupus. These are homes for people with chronic illness. We are all in this fight together. Our goal is to end homelessness in our community and throughout yours. In the chronic illness community, we are one big dysfunctional family.
